Black Tax S3

BET Africa’s hit sitcom ‘Black Tax’ returns with more family fun

Get ready for more laughter and mayhem as the SAFTA-winning sitcom Black Tax makes a return to BET Africa (DStv channel 129) on July 1, 2023, at 19:30. The third season delves into the world of side hustles and taking the plunge (in more ways than one) while trying to keep your wild and wacky family in check.

This hilarious original comedy follows the trials and tribulations of the close-knit Dlamini family where the daughter, Thuli (Jo-Anne Reyneke), is landed with the responsibility of being the main breadwinner. Her sprawling extended family has helped her through so many of the challenges she’s faced in life … and now it’s pay-back time from the first paycheque!

Black Tax is a light-hearted look at the culture of black tax – the good, the bad, and the laugh-out-loud aspects of this distinctly South African social phenomenon.

The first season saw Thuli being confronted with the reality of black tax and season two saw her trying to rise above it by upskilling herself as a single mom trying to forge her way in the professional world, season three is all about embracing it – and, for Thuli’s militant daughter Sihle (Mamodibe Ramodibe), having to dip her toes into the chaos of it all to help share the financial burden of supporting a household with her mother.

This season sees Thuli taking on a side hustle that becomes all-consuming, forcing her to make the decision to leave the safety of her real estate job and try to make it on her own as an entrepreneur. But the prospect of financial freedom comes at a cost, as it puts strain on her family life as well as her newfound relationship with Nkanyiso (Motlatsi Mafatshe).

But Black Tax is about far more than just trying to make ends meet. It’s about family, love, and community support, expressing gratitude, solidifying family bonds, joy and the lighter side of life as we navigate loadshedding, petrol increases, and interest rate hikes. This season, Thuli is going to experience it all. From trying to get the kids to stand on their own feet to having to house her delinquent brother, start a business, parent her parents, keep her man happy, and save a stokvel – this is all just the tip of the iceberg.

Black Tax has truly struck a chord with audiences, and we’re delighted to be bringing it back for a third season. With its clever scripting and true-to-life characters, the show is proving that you can mine comedy gold from the real situations facing South Africans in their everyday lives – and laugh at the quirks of our crazy but amazing nation.”, says Monde Twala, Senior Vice-President and General Manager for Paramount Africa, and Lead for BET International,

Partners DTI, Rouse House and e.tv are proud to be part of a production where the Black Tax audience’s appeal and SAFTA win for Best Scriptwriting in a TV Comedy are “an endorsement of the power of telling local stories – and telling them compellingly”.

The cast

Black Tax sees the return of all the audience favourites, including Thuli’s head-in-the-clouds brother Menzi (Sne Dladla), her parents Sizwe and Martha and her rural-raised nephew Zakhele (Bahle Mashinini) – plus cameo appearances by Daniel Jankes as Thuli’s “one percenter” boss James, Jason Goliath as her “frenemy” work colleague Antonio, and Owen Sejake as Nkanyiso’s father Bra Hugo. We will also see the introduction of a new character Nomasonto played by Thembsie Matu.

The series was created by the multi-award-winning team of Meren Reddy, Joshua Rous, and Luke Rous.

Don’t miss the third season of the riotously funny Black Tax, broadcast on BET (channel 129 on DStv) on Saturdays, starting on 01 July 2023 at 19h30. Get caught up on the first two seasons on Showmax. Season 3 of Black Tax will be available on the DStv Now app and on DStv Catch Up.
