Production is underway in Adelaide and Bedford in the Eastern Cape on the second season of Showmax’s psychological thriller DAM. One of the 10 most watched titles on Showmax in 2021 and the most nominated drama at the SAFTAs.
Set three months after the cult’s ritual sacrifice, which seems to have worked: rain has come and transformed the land. Meanwhile, Yola has gone missing, and Sienna believes she is dead but diamonds and skeletons are about to be discovered. “This show remains unlike anything else on TV in South Africa,” says four-time SAFTA winner Alex Yazbek. “It’s going to be another twisty and twisted season of love triangles, monsters, and more suppressed memories being uncovered.”
Natasha Loring won her first SAFTA, for Best Supporting Actress, as Sienna in the Showmax Original psychological thriller DAM. With 11 nominations, including Best TV Drama, the psychological thriller was in joint second place overall at the SAFTAS. As Yola, Lea Vivier was up for her first SAFTA, for Best Actress. Two-time winner Pallance Dladla was up for Best Actor as Themba, Yola’s lover. Hollywood star Neil Sandilands cracked his first SAFTA nomination, against another first-time acting nominee in DAM co-star Siv Ngesi.
SAFTA winners Antoinette Louw, Tarryn Wyngaard, and Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo, as well as Marvin-Lee Beukes, will return for the new season. Gerald Steyn, Laudo Liebenberg, Francis Chouler, Faniswa Yisa, Jennifer Steyn and David James are also back this season.
DAM Season 2 premieres on Showmax in the first quarter of 2023.
