Travis Scott

Travis Scott LIT up FNB Stadium with his explosive performance

There’s a lot that could be said about Saturday night, but if there’s one thing that sums it up, it’s that Travis Scott made sure that “It was LIT.” And yes, that’s his tagline (It’s Lit) echoing through the crowd all night long.

As the rain started to fall just before he was due on stage, many fans feared the worst. But not even the weather could dampen the anticipation . Thousands of fans (70,000 strong) stood their ground, ponchos on, phones out, waiting for one of the world’s most electrifying performers to emerge. And when the skies finally cleared, the lights dimmed, and the words “Greetings from Utopia” rang out, we all knew it was time for Travis Scott to bring heat.

Travis Scott exploded onto the stage, lighting up a jam-packed FNB Stadium with pure chaos and energy. The opening stretch was heavy on Utopia tracks — fitting for a tour named after the album that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with all 19 songs charting simultaneously on the Hot 100. From “HYAENA” to “THANK GOD” and “MODERN JAM,” the crowd matched every lyric, every beat, and every drop of flame bursting from the stage.

The set was a wild, hypnotic ride through Travis’s discography with hit songs like “Mamacita”, “90210”, “HIGHEST IN THE ROOM”, “Antidote”, “goosebumps” and of course, the mammoth hit “SICKO MODE” But nothing could prepare anyone for the absolute chaos that was “FE!N” Travis ran it back six times . Yes, six times and each one somehow hit harder than the last. The mosh pit? Utter madness. The energy? Unreal.

The production was next-level. Fire cannons, pyrotechnics, and blinding light displays turned FNB Stadium into a cinematic inferno. The only minor letdown was the sound, it could’ve been sharper but honestly, the sheer spectacle made up for it. At one point, Travis dropped to his knees, visibly emotional, taking in the roar of the crowd. Moments later, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to post.

Nahhhhhh yall set TONE.

Tonight showed me something different.

And it truly did. The energy in Joburg was unmatched.

What also stood out was the crowd itself. A mix of die-hard fans, teens, and even parents accompanying their kids for what might’ve been their first-ever big concert. Despite his reputation for wild shows, Big Concerts and Live Nation ensured safety came first. The event was open to teens under 16 only if accompanied by an adult, and anyone under 18 had to meet height restrictions to enter the general zones (where the crowd was at its craziest). Security, SAPS, and marshals kept everything under control both inside and outside the stadium.

In the end, it was more than just a concert, it was an experience. A statement. A night that reminded everyone why Travis Scott is in a league of his own.

Big Concerts and Live Nation outdid themselves with this one, following up the Chris Brown concert with an even bigger spectacle. And after this? Well… we hope that all roads now lead to one name: Aubrey Graham! The Champagne Papi. We’re ready, Draaaaake. Do it for the culture.
