What is Spinners Season 1 about?

Spinners Season 2 on Mzansi Magic

Directed by Jaco Bouwer and created by Benjamin Hoffman, Spinners follows Ethan (Cantona James), a 17-year-old from the Cape Flats who is drawn into gang life while trying to support his younger brother. When he discovers the adrenaline-fuelled world of spinning, South Africa’s unique motorsport culture he sees a possible way out and a chance at a different future.

Produced by Federation MEAC and Natives At Large, the MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, and CANAL+ co-production won audiences over with its gripping storytelling, authentic characters and fresh take on life in the Cape Flats. More than just a crime drama, the series explores family, survival, ambition and the choices that shape our lives. Distributed internationally by STUDIOCANAL, the series has earned acclaim both locally and abroad. It became the first African series selected to compete at the 2023 Canneseries festival, won three awards at Dakar Series including Best TV Series, and triumphed over Emmy-winning HBO drama Succession at the Shanghai TV Festival. Closer to home, it received a standing ovation at its sold-out Silwerskerm premiere and collected multiple SAFTAs.
