DStv announces new packages and prices

By TV Mzansi
September 8, 2026

MultiChoice is introducing its most significant product update in 15 years, bringing more of South Africa’s favourite entertainment and sport to DStv subscribers from 17 September.  The new DStv package line-up is designed around how customers watch today, with clearer choices, more accessible content and more value across the line-up. Launching this month with the breakthrough DStv Expect+ campaign, this will feature a bold new look and offering customers a taste of what to expect from the new DStv packages.

“Our focus is on giving subscribers better value and access to the entertainment and sport they love,” – Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice

DStv’s strength is the combination of South African entertainment, leading international content and unrivalled live sport in one place. For the first time in 15 years, we’ve taken a fresh look at how our packages work. We have reimagined our packages to better reflect how customers watch today, with tailored options specifically for entertainment and sports fans.

More entertainment for more subscribers

For the first time, some of DStv‘s biggest entertainment channels – M-Net, kykNET and Mzansi Magic are becoming available at significantly more accessible price points.

Starter

Starter adds 10 channels, including Wethu+, SuperSport KICKOFF and kykNET & Kie. Wethu+ combines Mzansi Bioskop, Mzansi Wethu and Mzansi Music into one new variety channel featuring local stories, movies, music and selected PSL weekend fixtures, while kykNET & Kie gives Starter viewers access to Afrikaans favourites like Suidooster and Skemergrond.

Select

Select becomes the new home of Mzansi Magic, the PSL and all DStv’s kids’ channels, opening hit shows like Nyala O and Inimba, along with every PSL match, to a wider audience.

Movies and Series

Movies & Series is DStv’s new entertainment-focused package, bringing together M-Net, kykNET, premium movie channels, Discovery Channel and BBC Earth, with 10 sport channels, including full PSL coverage.

DStv‘s movie offering is being refreshed with M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends channels providing more blockbuster movies, faster access to new releases, and fewer repeats. Two brand-new channels will also join DStv from 17 September: France 24, bringing 24-hour international news in English, and Church TV, a new faith-based channel.

More sport across the line-up

Sports

Sports is DStv‘s first package built specifically around sports fans, with 17 channels covering every PSL, Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, plus cricket previously only available on Premium, local rugby and action sport, alongside the entertainment in Select, including Mzansi Magic.

Full PSL coverage now sits in Select, while Starter adds more live football through SuperSport KICKOFF, including selected PSL and Premier League matches and full La Liga coverage.

Premium

Premium remains DStv’s most comprehensive offering, combining everything in Sports and Movies & Series with additional rights including Springbok and international rugby, Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis and golf majors.

More African stories, backed by CANAL+

MultiChoice (Pty) Ltd continues to drive the DStv value proposition for South African customers. Its relationship with MultiChoice Group, now a CANAL+ company, enables MultiChoice to draw on CANAL+‘s global scale, content relationships and more than 30 years of experience across Africa to enhance its service offering.

MultiChoice has built an extraordinary connection with South African audiences and a deep understanding of the stories they love to watch. – Nomsa Philiso, EVP Content, CANAL+ Africa

Not only does CANAL+ share the same passion and commitment, but they are also investing in African storytelling through increased production and global distribution.

Premium will also be available on a new 24-month contract at R799 a month, including the Access Fee. Existing customers do not need to take any action. Throughout September, Access, Family and Compact customers will automatically move to Starter, Select and Sports respectively, while EasyView, Compact Plus and Premium customers will remain on their existing packages and can move to the new line-up if they choose.

The new DStv packages will launch on 17 September with the breakthrough DStv Expect+ campaign. Featuring a bold new look and offering customers a taste of what to expect from the new DStv.
