Spinners S2 sets global release across 45+ countries
Following the great success of the award-winning first season, CANAL+ and STUDIOCANAL, CANAL+‘s in-house studio and worldwide distributor of SPINNERS, announce the global rollout for Spinners Season 2 at the end of October.
SPINNERS Season 2 will air across more than 45 countries spanning French-, English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, France, Overseas territories, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium, and in five language editions: the original English/Kaaps/Afrikaans, French, Swahili and Amharic dubs, and Portuguese subtitles. The scale of the release reflects CANAL+‘s wider ambition to bring African stories to audiences around the world.

Furthermore, this new season once again reflects STUDIOCANAL’s ambition to support large-scale productions in South Africa, one of the world’s leading destinations for ambitious film and television productions. As the worldwide distributor of SPINNERS, STUDIOCANAL contributes to showcasing exceptional local talent and highlighting the recognized South African’s technical expertise and production capabilities on the global stage.
SPINNERS has already proven that African stories can compete on the world stage, and this rollout is us backing that conviction at scale. Bringing Season 2 to millions of viewers across the world and delivering it in more than five languages, means audiences from Lagos to Paris get to experience South African storytelling at its best. – Nomsa Philiso, Executive Vice President, Content, CANAL+ Africa
Season 2 raises the stakes for Ethan (Cantona James) and his crew, who have swapped the Cape Flats for the bright lights and bigger dangers of Johannesburg. Now rising stars of the city’s spinning scene, Ethan, Trevor (Braeden Buys), Shane (Dillon Windvogel), Angelo (Nahum Hughes) and Amber (Chelsea Thomas) find fame, love and stability within reach – until a brutal ambush orchestrated by Ethan’s former gang threatens to unravel everything. Beyond the adrenaline of spinning culture, the new season explores the price of power, the cycle of violence, and the lingering weight of grief.

Joining the cast for Season 2 is the Maseko family: matriarch Ma Sithole (Clementine Mosimane), her bodyguard (Mondli Makhoba), grandson and Ethan’s new rival Sayi (Aphiwe Mkefe), and granddaughter Amahle (Luyanda Zwane).
SPINNERS is proudly sponsored by Telkom (South Africa).
Global Release
From October 25, across the African continent, the series will air in its original form on channels including Mzansi Magic (South Africa), Africa Magic Showcase (Nigeria), Akwaaba Magic (Ghana), Pearl Magic Prime (Uganda) and Zambezi Magic (Zambia); it has been dubbed into Swahili for audiences in Kenya and Tanzania, and into Amharic for Ethiopia; and Portuguese-subtitled versions reach Mozambique and Angola.
In French-speaking Africa, the series will be broadcasted in French on CANAL+MAGIC channel.
The rollout will continue on CANAL+ channel and app from October 26 in France and its Overseas territories (Reunion Island, Mauricius, the Caribbean, New Caledonia and Polynesia) and also in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium, giving SPINNERS one of the broadest rollouts of any CANAL+ African original to date.
Cast and creative team

Cantona James, who returns as Ethan, says one of the most rewarding parts of the role has been filming in communities that reflect the show’s own realities, and that Ethan’s move from Cape Town to Johannesburg mirrors a journey of his own: “As a Jozi boy playing a character who moves from Cape Town to Johannesburg, there’s something deeply meaningful about telling this story. We live in a rainbow nation, but we rarely see that represented authentically on our screens, and I believe Spinners is one of those shows that brings people together in a way that feels honest and real.”
Joining the cast as the Maseko family are Clementine Mosimane (Ma Sithole), Aphiwe Mkefe (Sayi) and Luyanda Zwane (Amahle). Zwane calls Season 2 “an exciting moment… for African storytelling,” and a chance to “showcase my talent to international audiences… while continuing to grow as a South African actress.” Mkefe, back home in Cape Town to shoot, says “there’s something deeply important about telling authentic South African stories on a global scale, about bringing our world to audiences who may have never seen it before.” Director Jaco Bouwer, returning for Season 2, sums up the season’s theme: “This season is personal… SPINNERS Season 2 is about the scars we carry, the ones that don’t show up in rear-view mirrors.”
SPINNERS Season 2 is co-created by Joachim Landau and showrunner Benjamin Hoffman, with Jaco Bouwer returning as director and Matthew Jankes and Sean Steinberg back as head writers. The eight-part series is produced by Joachim Landau for Federation Middle East, Africa and Caribbean, and co-produced by Ramadan Suleman for Natives at Large.
SPINNERS Season 2 is a co-production of MultiChoice and CANAL+ with StudioCanal handling international distribution.
