DStv is back and there is plenty to expect. DStv confirmed the return of Big Brother Mzansi for Season 7 at its DStv Expect More event in Johannesburg on Wednesday night, as its refreshed package line-up goes live today across satellite and DStv Stream. The announcement comes as DStv rolls out its new packages in South Africa, with changes across Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series and Premium.

For DStv viewers, it is a new chapter with changes to where some of the biggest local channels sit, a refreshed sports offering and a packed pipeline of South African entertainment still to come. The event celebrated the African stories, personalities and sporting moments behind DStv, while giving guests a look at what is on the way.

And yes, the big one is official: Big Brother Mzansi is coming back. In 2026 to date, across kykNET and Mzansi channels alone, DStv has already aired 266 South African titles, spanning drama, reality, movies, soaps, documentaries and entertainment. This excludes international content and programming from third-party channels carried on DStv. That means hundreds of local stories have already made their way onto DStv this year, with even more titles waiting in the wings.

This year’s line-up has included popular titles like Nyala O…, Inimba Season 2, Kwa Baba Season 1, Uthando Nes’thembu Season 9, Married at First Sight Mzansi Season 3 and Mgidi Moms Season 1. Still to come are Spinners Season 2, Invisible, Boer Soek ‘n Vrou S19, Married at First Sight Uncut Season 1, Big Brother Mzansi Reunion Season 2, Life with the Khoza Brothers Season 1, Dagdroom, The 1% Klub, Kokkedoor Klassiek and Taktiek Season 2.

Spinners Season 2 premieres on 25 October on Mzansi Magic, while M-Net’s new South African action thriller, based on Deon Meyer’s novel, Invisible, premieres on 14 October. Further details on Big Brother Mzansi Season 7 will be announced soon So while Season 7 details are still under wraps, one thing is already clear: Big Brother Mzansi is officially part of what DStv viewers can expect next.

New DStv packages go live 17 September

DStv is back with new refreshed packages

DStv’s refreshed package line-up takes effect today. Existing customers will be automatically migrated to their new package by the end of September as part of a staggered rollout. There is no price increase with the launch of the new packages. The overhauled package lineup includes Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series and Premium. Mzansi Magic is now available in Select, while M-Net and kykNET are included in Movies & Series. The new Sports package brings together 17 sports channels, while Starter gains 10 channels, including Wethu+ and SuperSport KICKOFF. The changes are designed to give viewers a clearer mix of entertainment, local stories and sport across the refreshed DStv packages, while keeping the offering accessible to existing subscribers.

Expect More is a celebration of what we do every day: telling our stories and bringing South Africans the entertainment and sport they love. -Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice (Pty) Ltd

Tonight gave us a chance to bring DStv to life, and to giveour stakeholders a taste of the power of entertainment to delight and inspire. Big Brother Mzansi is coming back, Spinners returns soon, and there is a strong pipeline of entertainment and live sport ahead for South African subscribers – now more accessible than ever.

A night built around the stories

DStv Expect More was held at Urban Brew Studios and hosted by radio personality Anele Mgudlwa and produced by Gavin Wratten, executive producer of 19 seasons of Idols South Africa. The ambitious event saw guests joining fully functional sets for Spinners, Carte Blanche, Married at First Sight, Big Brother Mzansi as well as pitch side reporting on the PSL, culminating in a premiere screening of the segment, shot and edited on site. On the experience, Mgudlwa said on X,

The DStv event tonight is easily the best concept I’ve ever experienced. – Anele Mgudlwa

It was an event that turned the usual TV launch on its head, putting guests inside the worlds of the shows rather than simply talking about what is coming to screen. From stepping onto sets to getting a taste of sports reporting, the DStv Expect More experience brought the entertainment offering to life in a way that felt very much like DStv’s new message: expect more.

The evening brought together stars like Kim Engelbrecht, Carol Tshabalala, Cantona James, Aphiwe Mkefe, Govan Whittles, Tim Theron, Pastor X, Musa Mseleku, Tumisho Masha, Reandie Grey, journalists, and social media stars including Vafa Naraghi, PD Jokes, The City Makoti and more. Big Brother Mzansi host Smash Afrika and Season 6 winner Liema Pantsi were also in attendance as the return of Season 7 news was announced. With familiar faces from television, sport, entertainment and social media all under one roof, the evening was also a celebration of the personalities who continue to make South African television what it is.

More than 300 live matches produced by SuperSport

Beyond local and international entertainment, and moving to the drama of live sport, SuperSport produces more than 300 live matches each season across the Premier Soccer League, SA20 and Currie Cup alone, including all 240 Betway Premiership games, all 34 SA20 matches and all 31 Currie Cup fixtures. SuperSport also produce Proteas home internationals and locally played United Rugby Championship matches, alongside studio shows including Extra Time, Soccer Africa, Fan Base, The Lineup, The Final Whistle and Phaka.

That means the refreshed DStv offering is not only about what is coming to the entertainment channels. Sport remains a major part of the proposition, with hundreds of locally produced matches forming part of the annual offering. That local production sits alongside an international sports offering that includes the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, UEFA Champions League, Springbok internationals, major cricket, Formula 1, tennis, golf and UFC and thousands of live events each year. From Mzansi Magic and Big Brother Mzansi to SuperSport and international sporting action, the refreshed line-up brings together a broad mix of what South African viewers watch throughout the year.

DStv is back and there is more to come

With more than 300 South African titles and more than 300 live matches produced by SuperSport across just three competitions, and Big Brother Mzansi Season 7 now confirmed, there is plenty more to expect. Whether viewers are tuning in for reality TV, drama, local movies, sport, news or international entertainment, the new DStv packages arrive with plenty already on screen and more still to come.
