kykNET has struck a major blow for Afrikaans viewers by purchasing the dubbing rights to this hit series that captivates audiences everywhere with nail-biting intrigue in the turbulent world of the oil industry in Texas.

Be warned though: it can get pretty hot up there in Texas!
The series was created by Taylor Sheridan, who was also responsible for hit series such as Yellowstone , 1883 and 1923. Set in the western US state of Texas, Landman tells the intricate story of a group of people – from billionaires to oilfield workers – whose lives revolve around oil.
Billy Bob Thornton stars as farmer Tommy Norris. In Afrikaans, a farmer is someone who works on farmland. In this case, he is the crucial link between oil companies and landowners; the one who must negotiate rights for exploitation and development while also taking into account the legal requirements, which a team of highly paid lawyers are obviously trying to bend in favor of their employers.
However, Landman is not just about landowners and rich oil magnates. West Texas borders Mexico, which means that this area is also used as a distribution route by drug cartels.
Who is who?
Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton, voiced by De Waal Stemmet) is a hard-nosed farmhand who works for M-Tex Oil and handles all their negotiations. However, keeping everyone, from the oil magnates to the drug dealers, happy is no easy task.
Angela (Ali Larter, voiced by Natasja Jacobs) is Tommy’s ex-wife and the mother of his two children, Cooper and Ainsley.
Cooper (Jacob Lofland voiced by Rowlen von Gericke) studied geology, but dropped out and now works for M-Tex as a henchman in the oil fields.
Ainsley (Michelle Randolph voiced by Anré Buguegnon) is a high school student.
Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace voiced by Sue Pyler) is a lawyer who does work for M-Tex Oil.
Dale Bradley (James Jordan voiced by Antowan Nöthling) is a petroleum engineer and a good friend of Tommy.
Monty Miller (Jon Hamm voiced by Charl van Heyningen) is the owner of M-Tex Oil and has a long-standing professional and personal relationship with Tommy.
Cami Miller (Demi Moore with the voice of Renske Jacobs) is Monty’s wife.
Nathan (Colm Feore, voiced by Jakkie Groenewald) is a lawyer and administrator at M-Tex Oil.
Ariana Medina (Paulina Chavez voiced by Claudia Jones) is a young widow whose husband was killed in an accident on one of M-Tex Oil’s oil fields.
A formidable team of translators, including Morné Coetzer, Janine Opperman and Francois le Roux, did an excellent job of capturing the atmosphere of this brilliant series in Afrikaans. The dubbing directors are Rina Nienaber and De Waal Stemmet.
Filming of Landman began in February 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas. The first two episodes aired on November 17, 2024 and were an immediate international hit. The first season, which consists of ten episodes, aired its final episode on January 12, 2025. The second season recently began production, and the contract for the third season was signed in December 2025.
kykNET‘s Afrikaans version is one of the few dubbings of the series available worldwide.
Landman S1starts on Sunday 22 February at 21:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144) and will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up. The series has an age restriction of 16.
