Sy, die Meeue en die Heilige Gees, a new mini series coming to kykNET
A brand-new character-driven drama series, Sy, die Meeue en die Heilige Gees, is set to take viewers on an intimate journey through the challenges of motherhood, identity and faith. This new mini drama premiered on Tuesday 29 September at 20:00 on kykNET, DStv channel 144.
Simone Pretorius returns to kykNET screens in the role of Ingrid, a single mother struggling with the realities of parenthood, while Mila-Sofi Clasen and Evan Hengst appear as Zoey and Simon respectively. The supporting cast includes Cintaine Schutte, Albert Pretorius, Daneel van der Walt, Ira Blanckenberg and Marion Holm.
What is the Sy, die Meeue en die Heilige Gees about?

This three-episode mini drama series tells the story of Ingrid, a woman who can make almost anything work. But being the single mother of her six-year-old daughter, Zoey, is the one thing she simply cannot seem to get a grip on. Hoping for a fresh start, Ingrid and Zoey move to Fish Hoek. Yet you cannot pack all your pain into boxes and unpack it somewhere else. Some wounds travel with you. Ingrid is an unconventional mother who would do anything for Zoey. Somewhere between everything she has sacrificed for her child and her desperate attempts to do things right, she has started believing that being a good mother is something she simply has to try harder to achieve.

Fish Hoek, however, brings more than just a change of scenery. Between the sea and the seagulls, new friendships and a faith that settles beside her in an uncomfortable yet persistent way, Ingrid’s heart slowly begins to open to the possibility that she does not have to carry everything on her own. That grace is not something that has to be earned. And that faith may be less about having all the answers and more about the willingness to loosen your grip.
Producer, writer and director Chanel Muller on Sy, die Meeue en die Heilige Gees
Sy, die Meeue en die Heilige Gees is a journey of discovery through motherhood and conversion. It is about identity and redemption, but also about accepting that our best is sometimes not enough, and that the sacrifices we make for our children are not theirs to
carry.
According to Muller, the series does not aim to romanticise faith or prescribe answers. “This is not a story about revelation, but about closeness and presence. Ingrid is not a perfect character. She is impulsive, stubborn, sometimes completely out of her depth, but she is deeply human. I hope viewers recognise something of themselves in her journey, whether as a parent, a child, or someone searching for grace,” she adds.

Sy, die Meeue en die Heilige Gees is a story about embracing imperfection. It is about a woman who learns that motherhood does not require her to be stronger, better or less broken. She simply needs to show up. Exactly as she is.
Sy, die Meeue en die Heilige Gees premieres on Tuesday 29 September at 20:00 on kykNET, DStv channel 144. Episodes will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
