The narrative is to show the beauty of Pimville with the hope that it will represent the South African township narrative,” says Bo Maq. “As a director, I focused on choosing the most aesthetically pleasing locations—framing them in a way that exposes the beauty of the basketball courts, parks, and the modernity in the newest infrastructure and buildings.”

The director’s unique perspective is also shaped by his deep involvement in AI-generated content. However, for Pimville, Bo Maq used his technical knowledge to double down on the one thing technology cannot yet replicate: human soul. “My work in the AI space definitely influenced my direction,” Bo Maq explains. “It made me emphasize elements such as raw actor performance and the creative placement of props—details that AI typically can’t achieve or replicate at the moment. It’s about that authentic human touch.”
Viewers can expect a vibrant celebration of “Pimville Culture,” a section of Soweto known for its urban sophistication. The show will highlight local street cultures, including BMX and skateboarding, alongside the specific costumes, vehicles, and even the food that defines the household experience in the area.
