Abbie Cornish as Emma in M-Net series Invisible

5 reasons to watch M-Net thriller INVISIBLE

By TV Mzansi
October 16, 2026

M-Net thriller INVISIBLE, premiered on Wednesday, 14 October, at 20:00 on M-Net (DStv Channel 101). Based on Deon Meyer’s acclaimed novel Blood Safari, the eight-part conspiracy thriller combines international star power, breathtaking South African locations, edge-of-your-seat action and a mystery that refuses to let go.

With its blend of wildlife crime, political intrigue and a story rooted in South African history, INVISIBLE is one of the local productions worth adding to your watchlist this week. If you missed Wednesday’s premiere, here are five reasons to catch up.

Still wondering whether to tune in? Here are five reasons why INVISIBLE should be at the top of your watchlist.

1. It’s based on one of Deon Meyer’s most beloved novels

South African author Deon Meyer is one of the country’s most internationally celebrated crime writers, with his books published in more than 40 countries and translated into dozens of languages. INVISIBLE is inspired by his bestselling novel Blood Safari. The series reimagines the novel for a contemporary audience while preserving the mystery, suspense and emotional depth that made the book a favourite among readers worldwide.

For viewers familiar with Meyer’s work, the adaptation offers an opportunity to revisit the author’s crime-fiction world through a television thriller that brings its suspense and secrets to the screen. Those discovering the story for the first time can also expect a mystery that reaches beyond a single crime.

2. The cast brings together international stars and South African favourites

Leading the cast are acclaimed international actors Abbie Cornish (Limitless, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and Dougray Scott (The Hack, The Crow Girl), alongside a powerhouse local ensemble including Tim Theron, Tumisho Masha, Frank Rautenbach, Kim Engelbrecht, Chi Mhende and Siv Ngesi. The combination of internationally recognised performers and established South African talent gives the production a strong local foundation while bringing together familiar faces for audiences who follow both local and international television.

3. The story is packed with twists, mystery and real-world intrigue

The series begins with the execution of local poachers in Hoedspruit, but quickly expands into a decades-old conspiracy involving corruption, political power, wildlife crime and hidden secrets from the past. Adding another layer of intrigue, the story draws inspiration from real historical events, including the mysterious 1986 plane crash that claimed the life of former Mozambican president Samora Machel.

By connecting wildlife crime to questions of political power and historical secrets, INVISIBLE places its central mystery within a wider web of events. The result is a story that reaches beyond the familiar boundaries of a crime investigation.

4. South Africa has never looked this spectacular

From Cape Town to the Lowveld, INVISIBLE showcases some of Southern Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes. The action unfolds against the backdrop of Hoedspruit, private game reserves, rivers, mountains and bushveld terrain that become characters in their own right.

The South African setting is more than a visual backdrop. The landscapes help establish the atmosphere of the thriller, placing its characters and their investigation in environments that are as compelling as the secrets they are trying to uncover.

5. A proudly South African production

Produced by the team behind acclaimed hits such as Trackers, Devil’s Peak and Heart of the Hunter, INVISIBLE showcases the depth of South African creative talent both in front of and behind the camera. While the story is rooted in South African landscapes, history and culture, its themes of power, corruption, family and survival are universal, making it a thriller with genuine global appeal.

With an established local production team, an international cast and a distinctly South African story, INVISIBLE adds another ambitious title to the country’s growing television landscape. Its eight-episode format also gives the conspiracy room to unfold over the course of the season.

INVISIBLE premiered on Wednesday, 14 October, at 20:00 on M-Net (DStv Channel 101). New episodes air weekly, with episodes also available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.

If you missed the premiere, you can catch up on the M-Net thriller INVISIBLE through DStv’s available viewing options before the next episode airs.
