Netflix has officially released the teaser for its upcoming South African telenovela, The Polygamist, a bold new Netflix original series adapted from Sue Nyathi’s acclaimed novel. The Polygamist cast is led by Gugu Gumede and S’dumo Mtshali and is set to premiere on 12 June 2026.
Produced by award-winning Stained Glass Productions, the 22-episode drama is already being positioned as one of the platform’s most ambitious African storytelling projects to date. Blending power, love, betrayal, and emotional consequence, The Polygamist explores the collapse of a man’s carefully constructed empire as his personal choices begin to unravel everything he has built.
What is The Polygamist about?

At the centre of The Polygamist is Jonasi Gomora, a self-made CEO who has built a thriving business empire and an equally complex personal life. His world is one defined by ambition, success, and control but beneath the surface lies a fragile structure built on emotional compromise and hidden truths.
As Jonasi’s relationships with multiple wives and mistresses deepen, the boundaries between love, loyalty, and power begin to blur. Each woman in his life becomes a mirror reflecting different aspects of his decisions, exposing the emotional cost of his choices. What begins as a story of success and dominance gradually unravels into a deeply human drama about identity, consequence, and the price of power. The Polygamist explores how personal ambition can reshape families, relationships, and legacies in ways that are both intimate and destructive.
