A brand-new reality series that opens an intimate window into one of South Africa’s most recognisable families. Spanning more than five decades and three generations, the series explores legacy, love and the bonds that continue to shape the Makhene family through conflict, healing and growth. At the centre of the series is actress and musician Letoya Makhene, who invites viewers into her world as she navigates life as a mother, a public figure and a spiritual healer. Her journey anchors the series, while the stories of her family, including her father musician Blondie Makhene and her sisters Pauline and Gontse, unfold alongside hers, revealing deeply personal struggles, unresolved tensions and moments of transformation. This Mzansi Magic Original ‘The Makhenes’ will premiere on 12 April, with new episodes airing every Sunday at 7PM.

The People vs VBS | Watch from 1 April

The People vs VBS on Showmax

The People vs. VBS is a true-crime documentary series from multi-award-winners IdeaCandy about a nearly two billion rand bank heist – allegedly orchestrated by the bank’s own executives. Imagine waking up to find your life savings are gone forever. According to VBS liquidator Walter Stander, that’s what happened to an 86-year-old woman, who’d saved R650 000 over 30 years as “a nest egg for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to go to college.” She lost it all in 2018, as did many others from rural and low-income communities. The four-part Showmax Original is directed by Richard Finn Gregory and produced by Elle Oosthuizen and Wim Steyn. Gregory and Oosthuizen were named the Salam Group Financial Journalists of the Year in 2022 for Steinheist. With court proceedings still unfolding eight years after the collapse, The People vs. VBS revisits a scandal that remains far from resolved. Binge from Wednesday, 1 April on DStv Stream. The documentary will also be airing on M-Net Channel 101 at 10PM on Thursdays from 2 April 2026.

The Agency|Watch from 20 April

Two-time Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender and silver screen legend Richard Gere headline George Clooney-executive produced spy drama The Agency. The series follows CIA officer ‘Martian’ (Fassbender), who is ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. A past love unexpectedly reappears, putting his mission and identity at risk and drawing him into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage. Based on the acclaimed French series Le Bureau des Légendes, the show is adapted by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. The series also stars Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith and Katherine Waterston, and premieres on M-Net on 20 April at 9pm, also available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.

Good Fortune|Watch on 5 April

Gabriel is a well-meaning but rather inept angel who meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker and a wealthy venture capitalist. Keanu Reeves stars as Gabriel alongside Emmy winners Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh and Aziz Ansari, who also writes and directs. According to Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus, Good Fortune is “a promising directorial debut by Aziz Ansari, whose socially minded humor is elevated by Keanu Reeves’ heavenly comedic timing.” Watch Good Fortune at 8PM on Sunday, 5 April on M-Net Channel 101.

A holiday town on the coast. Families who have been pitching their tents at the same caravan park for generations. Children playing on the beach. Braais under the trees. Everything is idyllic – until a body washes up on the beach. In Die oord, Martie Pretorius (Jana Kruger) is a criminologist going on holiday for the first time in years. Her son, Paul (Liam Bosman), is at university, and they see little of each other. Martie is convinced this holiday at the Seerust campsite in the fictional Kalfiebaai with her sister, Elsabé (Erica Wessels), and her family can only do them good. The holiday takes a dark turn, however, when a teenage boy’s body is found on the beach. Suddenly everyone is a suspect.  Brandi Jacobs (Melissa de Vries) of the local police thinks it is the Cape gangs sinking their claws into the small community, but Martie has another theory. The wounds. The plastic bag. The Bible verse. She has seen it before. Fifteen years ago. A serial killer called Prediker. Martie is drawn into the investigation against her will while trying to hide a devastating secret from her son, Paul. The producers are Wolflight Films, led by Roelof Storm, who was also responsible for the SAFTA-nominated drama series Niggies. Anita Fourie has had enough. She is middle-aged and trapped in a dull marriage. When she decides to divorce her husband, everything unravels – and not only because of the divorce. After years of tedium and routine, Anita Fourie (Henriëtta Gryffenberg) decides she wants to divorce her husband, the dentist Barend (Deon Coetzee). Her timing, however, is catastrophic: their daughter, Melissa (Luandri Reynders), leaves her husband, Quintin (Arno Greeff), after discovering he was unfaithful. Seeking stability, she moves back home – just as Anita herself is trying to get her life back on track. Then Anita’s mother, Tina (Elzabé Zietsman), also unexpectedly turns up. She’s been evicted from her retirement home. Suddenly, there are three strong women, a spoilt son in his late twenties, Barry (Luan Jacobs), and a bewildered Barend under one roof in Randburg – causing chaos, conflict and hilarity. A few secrets also come to light.  Mevrou Fourie & Kie is produced by Duan Wanty, Ingrid Engelbrecht and Philip Nolte of Show/Tell Pictures. This team recently made the series Op skou, which is available on Showmax. Philip Nolte is the director of Mevrou Fourie & Kie and wrote the script in collaboration with Hélène Truter and Augusta Zietsman. Joan of Arc, Francis of Assisi and John the Baptist are among the religious figures explored in Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints, hosted, narrated and executive-produced by the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind The Last Temptation of Christ and Silence. Each episode focuses on a different saint, including Mary Magdalene, Moses the Black, Sebastian and Maximilian Kolbe. The Saints was FOX Nation‘s biggest series ever and ranked as the platform’s top show for seven of its first eight weeks.

The Gilded Age S3|Watch from 9 April

Season 3 of The Gilded Age resumes in March 1883, as the ambitious Russell family and their old-money neighbours, the van Rhijns and the Brooks, navigate shifting fortunes in New York society. Carrie Coon and Denée Benton were up for 2026 Critics Choice Awards, while Audra McDonald received a nomination at this year’s NAACP Image Awards. Emmy winners Christine Baranski (The Good Fight) and Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) co-star. Created by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), The Gilded Age holds a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and was nominated for the site’s Golden Tomato Award for Best Historical Series. Mzansi Bioskop is shining the spotlight on the power of local storytelling festival starting this April. The festival will carry out a special theme for April titled “AmaSequel Aserious” and is dedicated to profile filmmakers and the young vibrant talent that are shaping Mzansi’s creative future. Airing every Sunday at 19:00, it brings together a fascinating roster of proudly local titles that reflect the diversity and richness of various aspects of Mzansi life. By providing a platform for local producers, writers, directors and on-air talent, it also plays a significant role in industry skills development, job creation and creative growth. Here’s a line-up of the Golden Sequel movies coming up in April:
