What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend
It is officially Blood Legacy weekend. After nearly two years of waiting, Blood Legacy Season 2 is finally streaming globally on Netflix, with all 20 episodes now available to binge. If you have been following Khanyi Adesina and the Ndlovu family’s messy battle for power, survival and legacy, this is the weekend to dig in. But Blood Legacy is not the only South African story worth adding to your Netflix watchlist. So, if you’re wondering what to watch on Netflix this weekend, here are our Mzansi picks.
From a gritty prison drama packed with familiar faces to the wedding drama currently keeping The Four of Us viewers talking, a returning Netflix favourite and romantic comedies worth revisiting before their upcoming sequels, there is plenty of local entertainment to get through this weekend.
1. Blood Legacy Season 2
The obvious one. We’ve been waiting for it, and now Blood Legacy Season 2 is here. The Gambit Films drama returns with Khanyi Adesina facing the aftermath of her abduction while the Ndlovu family finds itself dealing with even more dangerous enemies, political corruption, forbidden love and secrets threatening to destroy the family empire. And this time, there is no need to wait week after week. All 20 episodes are now streaming on Netflix globally, giving you an entire weekend to dive back into the Ndlovu dynasty. The second season also brings new faces and major developments, including Thembi Nyandeni joining the cast as MaNdlovu and the arrival of the mysterious A6 syndicate. If you have not watched Season 1 in a while, this is also the perfect opportunity to revisit it before getting stuck into Season 2.

2. Umthetho
If Umthetho passed you by when it landed on Netflix, consider this your sign to catch up. The seven-episode South African crime thriller follows Mbali, an idealistic young state prosecutor whose world is turned upside down when she discovers that her brother Moses, whom she believed was dead is alive and running a ruthless prison syndicate. To protect her younger brother Sphelele, Mbali is forced into an impossible position, caught between the law she has sworn to uphold and the family she is desperate to protect. The series is packed with familiar South African talent, including Nqobile Nunu Khumalo, Tony Kgoroge, Given Stuurman, Sindi Dlathu, Ernest Msibi and SK Khoza.
It is also directed by Mandla N, alongside Johnny Barbuzano and Jonathan “Jono” Hall, with Mandla N serving as one of the executive producers through Black Brain Pictures. And yes, seeing SK Khoza back on screen is another reason for longtime viewers to give this one a look, while Ernest Msibi adds another familiar face to the ensemble. The Netflix drama is an adaptation of the Brazilian series Brotherhood, but it has been reworked for a distinctly South African setting.
3. The Four of Us
If your social feeds have been anything to go by, The Four of Us has given viewers plenty to talk about. The e.tv daily drama follows the influential Dhlomo family, where love, family loyalty, business and long-held resentments collide. And the drama has recently reached one of its biggest storylines yet: Bobbi and Ndumi’s wedding. What should have been their happily-ever-after quickly turns into chaos when Lethabo arrives with a shocking revelation about Ndumi’s past. Meanwhile, a scandal involving Dhlomo Motors and stolen vehicles puts the family business under even more pressure, eventually leading to Bobbi calling off the wedding, followed by his arrest.
The storyline has also become a major cross-platform television moment. e.tv says the wedding episode delivered a 52.6% increase in audience performance, while its seven-day social campaign generated 73.4 million organic views and 25 million video views. And if you missed the beginning, Netflix gives you another way to catch up. The Four of Us is part of the strategic content licensing partnership between e.tv and Netflix, with episodes becoming available on Netflix after their e.tv broadcast. It was the first e.tv daily drama to launch under the partnership. So whether you are already invested in Bobbi, Ndumi and Lethabo’s complicated love triangle or you’re only now hearing about the wedding drama, this weekend is a good time to catch up.

4. Marked
Before Marked Season 2 arrives, why not go back to where it all started? The six-episode crime thriller follows Babalwa, a devout former police officer who becomes desperate to raise money for her daughter’s life-saving surgery. Her desperation pushes her towards an unlikely and dangerous solution: a heist.
The first season is packed with crime, family pressure, betrayal and difficult choices, making it an easy weekend binge if you want something darker. And there is another reason to revisit it now: Season 2 is already in production. Netflix has confirmed that Marked Season 2 is currently in production, with Babalwa sinking deeper into the criminal underworld and putting her family in even greater danger. The returning cast includes Lerato Mvelase, Sdumo Mtshali, Natasha Thahane, Sphamandla Dhludhlu and Bonko Khoza. So if Season 2 is on your radar, now is the time to refresh your memory.

5. Seriously Single
Romance, friendship and chaos? Always a good combination. With Seriously Single Too arriving on Netflix on 16 October, there is no better time to revisit the original. The first film introduced us to Dineo and Noni, two best friends navigating love, relationships, heartbreak and the realities of being single. Six years later, they are back but their friendship is about to be tested in a completely different way.
In Seriously Single Too, what should be a fun Cape Town bachelorette getaway quickly becomes a disastrous chain of events for the now-estranged friends. Netflix has already confirmed the sequel’s 16 October release, with Fulu Modibedi and Tumi Morake returning as Dineo and Noni alongside Buntu Petse, Keke Mphuthi, Yonda Thomas and Thabiso Rammusi. So before the sequel drops, go back to the beginning.

6. Love & Wine
If you’re in the mood for something lighter, Love & Wine is another South African romantic comedy worth revisiting. Set against the Cape Winelands, the film follows Ovee, a privileged young man who wants to prove that his family’s wealth does not define him. After falling for medical student Amahle, Ovee finds himself caught in a lie as he attempts to convince her that he comes from a much more humble background. The result is a romantic comedy filled with secrets, identity, friendship and plenty of chaos. The film stars Ntobeko Sishi, Thandolwethu Zondi, Masali Baduza and Thando Thabethe, and was directed by Amanda Lane. It is also a nice reminder of the growing range of South African romantic stories available on Netflix.

7. Queendom
Queendom has quietly become one of those shows that refuses to leave Netflix South Africa‘s Top 10. The South African drama follows Ntandokayise, a sharp law student who discovers that she is the heir to the Khahlamba Kingdom. She soon finds herself facing a self-serving prince while trying to protect her people from corruption. The series stars Linda Mtoba, Sindi Dlathu and Pallance Dladla, alongside a large ensemble that includes Themba Ndaba, Dawn Thandeka King, Silindile Nodangala and Mduduzi Mabaso.
And the numbers show that audiences have been sticking around. Queendom spent eight consecutive weeks in Netflix South Africa‘s weekly Top 10, reaching No. 2 at its peak and still appearing at No. 10 in the week ending 6 September. It was also No. 10 on Netflix South Africa‘s TV chart on 23 September. If you haven’t joined the conversation yet, this weekend is a good time to see what the fuss is about.
8. How to Ruin Love
The How To Ruin franchise is also getting ready for another chapter. Before How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents arrives on Netflix on 30 October, this is your chance to revisit How to Ruin Love. The franchise has built its appeal around the messy intersection of love, family, culture and relationships — making it a perfect warm-up for what is coming next.

9. Kandasamys: The Baby
And while we’re talking about How to Ruin Diwali, the Kandasamys are another perfect addition to the weekend watchlist. Kandasamys: The Baby takes the beloved family comedy franchise to Mauritius, where the in-laws gather for the arrival of their grandchild, only for their family antics to turn the celebration into complete chaos.
Netflix describes the film as the fourth instalment of the Kandasamy franchise, starring Jailoshini Naidoo, Maeshni Naicker and Mariam Bassa. With How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents coming on 30 October from producer Jayan Moodley, revisiting Kandasamys: The Baby is another fun way to get into the mood for the next big South African comedy release.

The Masked Singer South Africa
If you are missing the chaos of celebrity costumes, outrageous clues and wild guesses, The Masked Singer South Africa remains a fan favourite worth remembering. The South African version has featured celebrities performing in disguise while the panel tries to work out who is behind each costume. The Masked Singer South Africa is the ultimate guessing game, where famous Mzansi personalities hide behind elaborate costumes while a panel and viewers try to work out who is behind the mask. With big performances, wild clues and plenty of surprises, it’s an easy, fun watch for the whole family.
